Torchwood (S2E9)

i enjoyed this episode, but there were definitely some things that i found thoroughly annoying.

overall, i thought it was very sweet & funny. rhys was wonderful throughout. he puts up with SO much crap. which immediately brings me to the CRAP that they were still pulling... on rhys & gwen's wedding day no less!

the gwen/jack that was displayed was stomach turning for me. she's spouting off the whole time about how much she loves rhys (she should... he rocks) and yet she STILL almost kisses jack, they have a little "hero/heroine jumping into arms" moment in the barn (wtf? rhys is RIGHT THERE!) and then... the dance!?! what were they trying to say/show with this spectacle? the goo goo eyes and conversation were beyond inappropriate and i just don't see what the point of it was. maybe that neither gwen nor jack deserve the wonderful people that they already have? both rhys and ianto deserve better than that, and i felt highly offended on both of their behalf.

on the bright side, there was much ianto love! shopping for a wedding dress? brilliance :) the 'tailoring' banter bit... the gun/coat assistance... the agreeing with owen... the gun assembly teamwork... his sweet face during the vows... the dj-ing!!!... the wedding fairy... all awesome :) but then back to the frustrating with what could/should have been the most squee-worthy moment of the ep.

when jack got up i thought for SURE he was gonna go right past gwen and ask ianto to dance. nope. he goes straight for her, and we get the vomit inducing scene i mentioned above. when ianto came to cut-in i KNEW it would be to dance with jack and not gwen. i loved that he did that! but the fabulousness of it was tainted :( even after his little *cough* it takes several moments before jack and gwen break out of whatever 'spell' they were supposed to be under. then jack practically rolls his eyes at ianto and looks annoyed before taking another look back at gwen. dude, seriously... take a good look at the man in your arms. beautiful brilliant ianto!!! get yer shit together dude. i was practically screaming at the screen 'say something!'... and yet neither did. it left me feeling frustrated and more than a little betrayed. jack best learn to take better care of ianto in the future, or we will be more than happy to take him off his hands.

oh, and the 'doing ianto' comment has me on the fence. my first response was delightful laughter, but then i felt a bit offended. i'm still torn on the issues of humor vs. respect in that comment.

once again, i really did like the episode, and i even really liked gwen (eve myles did a great job) which doesn't always happen. i've watched it several times already, in fact.


dumb thought: i noticed this awhile back... all the main people have dark hair.


EDIT: just wanted to add that while i enjoy the two together, i'm not necessarily a hardcore jack/ianto shipper. as my favorite character, i just want to see ianto happy and truly appreciated, respected and loved like he deserves. and yes, i do know its just a tv show... but i tend to get a bit obsessed :)
